Editor’s Christmas message

In the fast-moving world of digital media, there is little time to reflect. We move forward, always intent to stay ahead of reporting relevant and local news.

The growth of digital media has resulted in more people from a wider audience accessing our news – forcing us to always achieve excellent journalism.

Newsrooms reflected the changes in the media industry, including the Bedfordview and Edenvale NEWS‘ newsroom.

Bedfordview resident and dedicated journalist, Duenna Mambana, has taken the reigns of covering the news in Bedfordview. Duenna is passionate about community journalism and believes her “never back down” approach to news is just what Bedfordview needs.

Kgopi Mabotja has written for different newspapers and online publications in Polokwane. He also worked at a regional radio station, Capricorn FM, where he presented sports over the weekend.

Kgopi has taken the lead in covering news in the Modderfontein area and with a keen interest in politics, and a dream to become one of the best political journalists the country has ever produced, he has embraced his role as watchdog.

The digitally-minded journalists currently serving the NEWS’ audience will continue to bring our readers more local and relevant breaking news in 2015.

The NEWS has been part of numerous successful community campaigns and projects in 2014.

These included the Ride for a Purpose bike rally against domestic abuse, Tiles4Change and more recently the annual Pinocchio Educare Centre children’s Christmas party. These were only a few of the numerous successful campaigns and projects initiated by our communities this year.

As we look back at the numerous articles written and published by the NEWS in 2014, we realise you did not always agree with that which we chose to report on and in some instances expose.

We don’t expect you to always agree with our decision to publish. If we’re fostering debate, initiating community engagement and encouraging decisions which will lead to a better community, then we consider ourselves to have done our job.

In closing, I wish each and every one of our readers, happiness and joy this Christmas and New Year

Thank you for your loyalty in 2014. Your news team looks forward to bringing you all you need to know in 2015.
