Western Extension businesses team up with Benoni Lakes Lions to give back to local charities

The club will then distribute the donations to Salvation Army, the Elevation Hub, and iThemba Rape Crisis Support Centre.

Businesses in Russel Street, Western Extension, hosted a Pink is Powerful charity drive recently in celebration of Women’s Month.

Community members donated all feminine hygiene products, clothing and shoes throughout the month.
On September 24, the donations were handed over to the Benoni Lakes Lions Club.

The club will then distribute the donations to Salvation Army, the Elevation Hub, and iThemba Rape Crisis Support Centre.

The initiative was a joint collaboration between Western Extension businesses, including The Victorian Secret, Lemongrass, Art-rageous, Cheers Bar & Bistro, Bamboo Massage Spa and iThemba Rape Crisis Support Centre.

Ivonne Taylor, owner of Lemongrass Restaurant previously told the City Times that the idea behind the charity drive was a collective decision by the businesses and restaurants as they wanted to give back, especially to the women in need during Women’s Month.
