The incident occurred at around 2.10pm, in the Northmead Square parking lot, when Jessica Bruggeman was reversing out of her parking bay.
“I was reversing out of my parking when another woman sped past — I saw her and quickly applied my brakes,” ” said Jessica.
However, the woman stopped, approached Jessica and accused her of bumping her car even though, she said, she was still a metre from the vehicle.
Nonetheless, Jessica apologised, but the woman allegedly called her names and punched her four times in the face, leaving her bruised.
It stopped only when another woman came to Jessica’s rescue.
Jessica, who went for an X-ray afterwards, said the blows to her head resulted in concussion and her jaws were also hurting.
She was shocked and can’t believe what happened to her.
She reported the matter to the police and the Northmead Square management.
Police spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele confirmed that a common assault case has been opened.
“The suspect has not yet been arrested — we are busy with investigations,” said Sekele.
The incident was captured on CCTV cameras and the police are in possession of the alleged perpetrator’s car registration number.
The Northmead Square management said they are appalled at such behaviour and trust that the law will take its course.
“We sincerely hope to never see an incident like this again, which unfortunately, was out of our control,” said director of Northmead Square Fivo Coutsides.
He said that patience and goodwill, not aggression and violence, should be the order of the day.
