Audience members get to play detective in the latest Startime Players production

Startime Players presented a murder mystery evening with their theatre production, Murder at the Lake Lodge, on Friday (October 25) and Saturday (October 26).

The play is written by Warwich Brown and directed by Donovan Arentsen and staged in the All Souls Anglican Church, in Northmead.

Murder at the Lake Lodge revolves around the killing of Harold, an architect with a bad attitude.

On the night of his second wife Anne’s birthday dinner, he is shot dead in his office, and the dinner guests are all under suspicion as they all have something against Harold.

The play has a surprise twist as audience members are invited to participate and play detective by asking cast members questions during a break to try to track down the killer.

Additional evidence and clues are given to the audience to help them decide, and at the end of the evening, before the killer is revealed, audience members write down who they think the killer is, and what the motive was.

To make it even more interesting, there is a different killer each night.

On Friday it was Lloyd, Harold’s stepson, and the following night the killer was his daughter, Heather.

Donovan explained it took them less than two months to rehearse for this production, and all reviews so far have been good.

“Getting the audience involved brings a new dynamic to theatre,” he said.

Catch Murder at the Lake Lodge again on November 1 and 2, in the All Souls Church hall.
