From August 28 to September 3, the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) and the Police Emergency Services (PES) arrested 105 suspects:
Benoni Flying Squad
Possession of drugs
Five suspects were arrested on drug-related offences in Kempton Park, Etwatwa, Putfontein and Mayfield, with meth recovered in these separate incidents.
False registration plates
The 35-year-old driver of a white Toyota Vitz was arrested in Kempton Park for false registration plates.
Armed robbery
BFS members received a lookout for a black Volkswagen Polo, which had allegedly been used to commit an armed robbery.
The vehicle and its four occupants, aged 16 to 23, were found in Dalview.
Inside the vehicle, officers found a toy gun, two knives and an iPhone, suspected to be stolen.
Vehicle recovery
• A stolen motorcycle, which had been stripped, was recovered in an open field in Lindelani. It was reported as stolen in Alexandra.
• An abandoned white Audi A4 was recovered at the First Avenue taxi rank, in Springs. It was reported as hijacked in Katlehong.
PES
From August 28 to September 2, PES, including the Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol, arrested 95 suspects across Gauteng.
The operation resulted in:
• 36 arrests for serious crimes including assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, house robbery, murder, possession of regulated medicine, fraud, attempted robbery, robbery, driving under the influence of alcohol, theft out of motor vehicle, warrant of arrest, malicious damage to property, handling of a firearm while intoxicated, rape, business robbery and contravention of the immigration act.
• Recovery of 25 hijacked and stolen vehicles.
Nine arrests were made on charges of being in possession of these vehicles.
• Seven suspects were arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms. Eight weapons were seized
• 43 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
Drugs recovered included heroin, dagga, meth, cocaine and mandrax.
