Highland Championships come to Benoni Pipe Band Gathering

The skirl of the bagpipes and marching feet will be heard at Benoni High School, on Saturday, July 26, for the annual SA Pipe Band and Highland Dancing Championships.

Pipe bands from the Cape and KwaZulu-Natal will also be competing among the contingent of 24 bands assembled for the Massed Band Display.

Highland dancers from all over SA will compete for the Webster Cup, donated by a Benoni family post World War Two, as the ultimate SA Open Dancing Champion.

There will be judges from Canada (Bob Worrall, piping) and two Scottish judges for the dancers.

More than 80 stalls, displays by the Wits Rifles and OosRand regiments, food and beverages will be available, as will secure parking.

The event will begin at 9am and gates will be open at 8am.
