A multi-disciplinary team arrested a suspect in Daveyton on August 3 in connection with the killing of two Boksburg Correctional Servicers prison wardens.

The prison wardens were shot and killed while they were tracing an absconded parolee in Langeville, Tsakane, on July 12.

Gauteng Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said the law enforcement agencies spotted the suspect travelling in a Nissan Sentra in Etwatwa, in Daveyton, after receiving a tip-off.

“They followed the suspect and when he noticed that law enforcement agencies are on his tail, he sped off. The team gave chase and cornered the suspect in Eiselen Street, Daveyton.

“The suspect was apprehended and found with a firearm and ammunition that belonged to one of the prison wardens. They then took the suspect to his home and a search yielded another unlicenced firearm believed to have been used in the murder of the prison wardens.

“Both weapons were seized and sent for ballistic testing to determine if they were used to commit the crime.”

The suspect will appear in the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court on two counts of murder and the possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunition.
