Cops seek King Solomon’s wisdom

Benoni police officers gathered for a prayer meeting in the City Hall on July 17.

Local churches and religious leaders also attended the gathering, aimed at seeking divine intervention in the work of the police.

Gauteng provincial police deputy chairperson Gen Phumla Gela said: “We pray for strength, patience and the wisdom of the Biblical King Solomon.

“We are God’s creatures and I think it’s fitting that we seek guidance and assistance from Him when doing our duty.”

Gela said 50 per cent of the country’s crime, which includes serious crime, happens in Gauteng.

“We can police only the actions of criminals, not their thoughts, hence we need God’s intervention,” he added.

Benoni police cluster commander Brig Vuyokazi Ndebele, who organised the prayer meeting, said that drugs, liquor and Satanism, are a problem in the area.

“We hope that after the prayers there will be changes,” she added.

Ndebele again asked the public to come forward with information concerning drugs and other crimes.

Gauteng Community Safety Police board chairperson Andy Mashaile read from the book of Samuel in the Bible, before telling officers that “we are fighting against forces of darkness which, in our case, are criminals.

“Today we are raising the spirit of victory.”

Mashaile added that police work is very special, as it is a calling.

He asked the public to support the police, saying: “God made them your protectors”.

Ndebele can be contacted on 082 551 7840.
