Learners marched to the school to deliver a memorandum containing a plethora of claims against the school head, Frikkie Smith, on August 6.
“We reject and distance ourselves, as RCL, to the petition of the few learners who were demonstrating on that particular day,” said RCL members Prince Phakamani (president), Siyabonga Sibanda (deputy president) and Alexandera Kais East (secretary).
The RCL said it was not part of the demonstration and was not informed of the march.
“The issues raised are neither true and are unfounded, and we reject the content with the strong terms it deserves,” said the RCL.
The learners’ council added that it was only two classes which took part in the march and did not follow the “protocol” as stipulated.
Furthermore, the RCL said, some issues, including Gauteng online, were dealt with.
They added that they remain “open” to all grievances of learners.
The Department of Education promised to give feedback to the memorandum of August 12, but at the time of going to print it has not yet responded our enquiry.
