Benoni SAPS media liaison officer Lieut Nomsa Sekele said two suspects are believed to have been involved in the business robbery.
According to the store’s manager, Ronald Mwalwanda, two men entered the store at about noon and escorted everyone to the back of the shop.
He said he made his way out the back of the store and ran to alert the Northmead Square’s security guards.
The suspects apparently fled the store when they realised Mwalwanda had run away.
Sekele said a customer’s phone was stolen during the incident.
No injuries were reported and police have not made any arrests.
