Safety MMC calls for calm on the roads
"Let us all work together in helping one another, as road-users, in ensuring that in this festive season we don’t end up counting corpses and maimed bodies, but blessings and happy moments enjoyed," said Ekurhuleni MMC for Community Safety, Mthuthuzeli Siboza.
He made this plea during the launch of the Ekurhuleni festive season law enforcement campaign, on December 5, in Springs.
On the day, the EMPD and Gauteng traffic officers also conducted a roadblock on Tonk Meter Way, between the N17 and Rietfontein Road, where road safety awareness pamphlets were issued to motorists and pedestrians.
“It is common knowledge that a huge number of lives are lost on a daily basis on our roads, and that the consequences are far-reaching, both socially and economically,” said Siboza.
“Consequently, let us regard road safety as everybody’s responsibility.
“Let us all make a concerted effort to assist authorities in the waging of this war against road carnage, by observing the traffic laws and acting responsibly on our roads.”
Siboza called on drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike to respect the rules of the road and to be considerate to one another, in order to avert tragic situations.
