Police vehicles parked on disabled parking bays

Disabled parking bays are strictly reserved for disabled persons, but local police officers have a habit of using them, even when there are no emergencies whatsoever.

Local shopping centres are faced with this problem.

The latest incidents involved two police vehicles — a white van which was spotted on December 2, at around 10am, and a Kia that was spotted on December 3.

Both vehicles were seen at the Northmead Square.

The driver of white van tried to justify his using the disabled parking bay by saying he “was only there for two minutes”, when confronted by a local resident who wished to remain anonymous.

The resident said it is not his responsibility to remind police officers of their civic duty and to not use disabled parking bays.

Brand new disabled bay signage has been installed at most of the disabled bays at the Northmead Square.

The City Times sent the photographs to the Benoni police for comment, but no communication had been received at the time of going to print.
