Benoni pilot missing after failing to land at airport

A Benoni resident is missing after failing to land his aircraft at an airport in Mossel Bay.

Clifton Pike was reported missing at approximately 1.30pm yesterday (Wednesday).

According to the pilot’s stepson, Brogan Shrimpton, he was flying from Margate to Port Alfred.

Pike then departed from Port Alfred en route to Mossel Bay, but did not land.

Shrimpton said Pike was flying with another man in a separate aircraft.

They flew through clouds, but later lost signal and visibility of each other.

The man flying alongside Pike landed his aircraft in Mossel Bay, and raised the alarm after Pike failed to land.

The City Times understands there is a search party looking for the missing man.

More details to follow.
