Northmead man convicted of killing neighbours’ dog over faeces

A 28-year-old Northmead man has been convicted of stabbing his neighbours’ dog to death, in September, last year.

Johannes Gorge Visser (28) stabbed the dog twice with a panga, because of a months-long feud about the dog’s waste in his yard.

The dog would relieve itself in Visser’s yard, leaving him to clean its urine and faeces.

“He was basically irritated by this and informed his neighbour, but it continued until it got to a stage where he got fed up and killed it,” said Benoni Magistrates Court senior prosecutor December Mthimunye.

He was charged under the Animal Protection Act 71 of 1952.

Visser was sentenced to a fine of R5 000, or 12 months in jail, when he appeared in the Benoni Magistrates Court on February 20.
