Three robbers sentenced

The three men who robbed school children of their possessions, were sentenced in the Benoni Magistrates Court, on February 17.

Fenyane Gift Mbonani (22), Tshepo Shabangu (23) and Tebogo Mashego (25), were sentenced for robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Mbonani received 20 years, Mashego five-year and Shabangu a three year sentence.

The three men were operating in Benoni, in a blue Nissan Qashqai, for months, reportedly robbing school children after approaching them and asking for directions.

Several Benoni schools also placed pupils on alert to the men’s modus operandi, last year.

The robbers were arrested on November 1 in the Benoni CBD.

The sentences will be served at Modderbee Correctional Centre.

Benoni SAPS media liaison officer Lieut Nomsa Sekele thanked the investigating officer in the case, Det Const Christian Popela, for his sterling work.
