Three die in accidents this weekend
At least three people died in two separate road accidents in Benoni, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Two people died and five others were injured when two vehicles collided on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Great North Road, shortly after 4am, on May 11.
”Paramedics immediately assessed all occupants of both vehicles and found that the VW driver, a male in his 30s, and passenger, a female in her 20s, had suffered extensive injuries and had, unfortunately, passed away prior to the arrival of paramedics,” said ER24 JHB East spokesperson Glen Orritt.
”Both were declared dead on the scene.”
Orritt said the second vehicle was transporting six people, including a seven-year-old girl, who was stabilised on the scene.
”The driver and four other passengers, including a one-year-old, were treated for minor to moderate injuries and were stabilised on scene before being transported to a nearby hospital by ER24 and other services,” said Orritt.
Orritt thanked the EMPD, Life The Glynnwood paramedics, Provincial EMS and other services for their assistance on scene.
In the second accident, paramedics responded to a motorbike accident on the N12 west-bound, before the Daveyton off-ramp.
”On arrival ER24 paramedics found a male in his 20’s lying at the side of freeway,” said Orritt.
”Immediately paramedics assessed the man and found that he had suffered severe and extensive injuries and, as a result, had unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.”
The man was declared dead on the scene.
Both accidents will be investigated.
