Massive hole restricts access to property

A huge hole in a Putfontein street has lead to a family having to make a massive detour to access their home.

The hole, which seems to have resulted from a collapsed water pipe, lies about 4m across a section of Small Street, in Putfontein.

A resident affected by the hole, Lilian Holmes, said she has to travel an extra 15 minutes through an informal settlement to get to the main roads.

Holmes said she cannot risk driving at night, because of the dangerous route through the informal settlement.

The barricades which cordoned off the road are no longer visible on the road, as they are scattered in the veld.

She said a few people have already driven into the hole and had to have their vehicles towed out.

Holmes said the hole developed after the incessant rainfall a few months ago.
