The sewage water has risen out of a manhole in front of the offices, at 6 Hamburg Road, as well as from a sewage pump across from the company, resulting in large amounts of water in front of and inside the premises.
Siveshen Naidoo, from Kopex Africa, the business involved, said the metro was working on the issue five weeks ago, after which pumps and cables were missing and the problem was aggravated.
Naidoo said this has been reported to the metro, to no avail.
Managing director Nico Roets said the matter is now so out of hand that it is totally unacceptable and drastic steps need to be taken.
“It is affecting our employees and poses serious health risks,” he added.
The leak is described as a “lake” on the property.
“It is impossible to invite customers to the premises, which is required for inspection of their equipment, thus we cannot deliver equipment on time,” added Roets.
He said the matter needs to be escalated to higher levels.
“We have major construction work on our site and people are forced to park in the road to walk through the overflowing sewer every day.”
The City Times requested comment from the Ekurhuleni Metro two weeks ago, but no reply had been received at the time of going to print.
