Colour-play for gorgeous new hair

If you are getting bored with your hair, as many women often do, maybe it's time to play with a mix of colours to bring out your creative side.

Here is an idea of what you can do, as recently perfected on a model by the House of Style unisex hair studio.

Owner and stylist Monique Doubell decided to colour Melissa Barnard’s hair by first dividing it into big sections at the back and smaller sections at the front.

For some of the sections, she prepared a bright red mix, combining it with a natural brown to keep the colour longer.

She mixed purple, again combining it with the natural brown, for the other sections.

To use in between these colours, a natural dark brown was prepared.

Doubell uses Schwarzkopf Igora hair colour, and said she has never had a bad colour-outcome with this preparation.

“The colours always come out bright and vibrant,” she said.

After colouring section by section, the hair had to set for 45 minutes.

Because Melissa’s hair was already a natural red, these colours took effect very quickly.

“I like doing exciting things like this, but I can’t wait for the time to go by to see what it looks like,” said Monique.

She explained that maintaining the colour costs much less than when the initial colouring is done.

After she had rinsed and trimmed her model’s hair into stylish layers, it was blow waved and we got to see the end product.

The colours blended together well, resulting in a classy, modern look that brought out Melissa’s bright blue eyes.

Melissa said she loved her new hair colour.

“I really think it looks awesome,” she commented.

Monique concluded that, again due to her model’s hair already have been red, the red and purple colours will not wash out quickly.

She explained that, if the client’s hair was blonde, for example, a touch up would need to be done every three to four weeks.

Various colours can be played with using this technique.

If you are not feeling bold enough for a big change yet, the salon, which is situated at 80 Pretoria Road, on the same premises as Grid and Grill, also accommodates those who prefer a more traditional look.TB
