Metro spokesperson Lebogang Ramashala said the closure is to allow the developer of Crystal Park Extension 57 to proceed with the estimated R4-million reconstruction of this section of Van Ryn Road.
The estimated construction period is four months.
The contractor has already been appointed and is ready to start work.
“Although the closure will cause inconvenience and will take some considerable time, it’s in the best interests of the motorists,” said Ramashala, explaining that the existing van Ryn Road has a typical old, sand-sealed surface, in a poor condition, and has to be upgraded to accommodate the additional traffic expected to be generated by the new housing developments in the area.
