The first thing dog attack victim Luke Flemming (3) did when he arrived home after three weeks in hospital, was to play with a dog.
Luke played with the Jack Russell that protected him from a vicious attack by two other Jack Russells, at his Northmead home, on May 28.
The three-year-old was discharged from the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital on June 17.
His father, Gary Flemming, was at his son’s bedside for the duration of his hospitalisation.
Gary slept on the floor next to Luke’s bedside, but said that on the nights leading up to his discharge, Luke opted to sleep next to his father, on the floor.
According to the father, his child is recovering well and is his normal self, despite sustaining massive damage to his face and losing his ear in the attack.
Luke will return for medical treatment to his nose and will, in a year’s time, undergo grafts to reconstruct his missing ear.
Gary admitted that he received a wake-up call through the incident and is now anxious for his child’s safety.
