SAPS find illegal substances at schools

Several illegal substances were confiscated at two schools that were searched in the Crystal Park SAPS precinct, last week.

A packet of discarded dagga was discovered at Crystal Park High School, and dagga, cigarettes and matches at Gekombineerde Skool Noorderlig.

No arrests were made, as the discarded dagga could not be linked to any of the pupils.

No illegal substances were present at Petit High School, Chief Albert Luthuli High School, Chief Albert Luthuli Primary School, Jahari Christian School or Crystal Park Primary School.

Children were educated about substance abuse when the schools were searched.

The operation was called for by Crystal Park SAPS social crime prevention coordinator Sgt Lerato Mopeli.

The SAPS K-9 unit, Metro Police, community patrollers, Youth Desk volunteers and volunteers from the trauma centre assisted on the various days.

Crystal Park High School principal Frikkie Smith appreciates the work the SAPS are doing with his school in the fight against drug abuse.

Henning Malan, Gekombineerde Skool Noorderlig principal, welcomed the search, although he said drug abuse is not a big problem at the school.
