The Dubai Centre, in Dewald Hattingh Road, had just closed its doors to customers at around 1pm and staff members were busy cashing up when two men, wearing a uniform similar to that of the staff, emerged from inside the wholesaler.
Police spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said all the staff members and management were surprised, because they did not recognise the men.
“The two men immediately produced firearms and ordered everybody to an office where the safe is kept,” said Sekele.
They removed all the money from the safe and proceeded to empty all the tills.
Sekele said all the staff members were tied up, no shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
The men have not been arrested, but Sekele said the police are hoping to make an arrest soon.
“There is video footage from the store and we believe it will shed more light on the suspects’ identity,” she added.
