The last of the renovations included rubber surfacing under the playground and new picnic furniture, that was built into the park.
The five concrete circles for the bunnies were also repaired.
The other renovations implemented with this year’s Ekurhuleni budget of R1 000 000 include:
- An enclosed area constructed in the middle of the park in which the bunnies will be kept.
- Shelters for cattle, sheep and goats were built and the pigs’ shelters were upgraded.
- Irrigation has been installed around the park and the the borehole was upgraded.
Gideon Strydom, caretaker at the park, said the next step includes repairing the dam, which will be completed next year.
The braais will also be repaired and new grass and flowers planted.
Strydom said they are working together with the Benoni SPCA to rid the park of illnesses affecting the bunnies.
The Bunny Park is open daily from 8am until 4pm, except for Christian public holidays.
