Woman in a serious condition following accident

A woman was transported to the Life the Glynnwood Hospital in a serious condition, following a motor vehicle accident in Northmead this afternoon (October 8).

The 30-year-old was driving a white Hyundai Getz, accompanied by her 15-year-old son, when a truck collided into the side of the car, on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Fifth Street, just after 1pm.

ER24 JHB East spokesperson Glen Orritt said the driver sustained suspected head, neck, chest, leg and pelvis injuries.

The teenager was transported to the same hospital with minor injuries.

The two occupants of the truck were shocked by the incident, but sustained no injuries.

Local authorities were on scene to investigate the accident.

An employee at A S Steijn attorneys, Johannita Cox, said the intersection where the accident took place has been a high accident zone for years.

She said the firm, which is located opposite the intersection, is the scene of an accident about once a month.

Cox said petitions have been submitted to have speed bumps built near the accident scene.
