Wetland area subjected to dumping

The wetland area between Malherbe, Back and Norman streets, in Morehill, is continuously subjected to the dumping of all sorts of trash.

Residents Gavin and Bev Scott want something done about it.

They suspect that the main culprits are the illegals who have taken refuge in the trees and shrubs and who use the area for sorting rubble and refuse collected from the nearby suburbs.

Besides this, they said, council never makes an effort to clear the storm water run-offs along Back Street and the drains are full of litter, also disposed of by the vagrants.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality said it has conducted an inspection and littering around the area will be attended to as soon as possible.

“The matter regarding people sorting recyclable materials should be reported to the Ekurhuleni Metro Police while it takes place,” said metro spokesman Themba Gadebe.
