These roads will be closed to traffic during the Toy Run

On Sunday, November 30, Benoni Northerns Sports Grounds will once again be the final destination for the Annual Biker Toy Run.

The fun-filled day promises live entertainment and a wide variety of stalls and food vendors.

The biking fraternity gathers toys to donate to less fortunate children around the country.

The entrance fee is a donation of a toy for less privileged children.

The following traffic measures will be in effect on the day.

The intersections along Great North Road will be manned by EMPD and Benoni CPF.

The organisers request that members of the public be patient while the mass rides pass.

No car may interrupt the mass ride.

Roads which will be closed off totally are:

n Brodigan Street (between Hanekam and O’Reilly Merry streets)

n Hanekam Street (from Hospital to Vygie roads)

n Hospital Road (from Hanekam Street to Great North Road)

Organisers have attempted to minimise areas closed to cars, but envision heavy traffic along O’Reilly Merry and Dalrymple streets, as well as all junctions along the route.

It is recommend that people use Fourteenth and Eleventh avenues to traverse the area.

The mass rides are scheduled from 9am till noon, but traffic will be heavy throughout Northmead and its surrounds all day.

Volunteers will be dropping off flyers to all homes along the affected routes the week beforehand.

Anyone who needs access to a house in the closed off area will be assisted.

Over 300 marshals from over 20 civic and government groups, including EMPD, SAPS, provincial police, emergency services, Benoni CPF, Lions, Round Table, Rotary, 20 000 bikers and a few car and bicycle clubs, will be set in place to support the cause.

All mass rides start at 9am from the following points:

  • North: Irene Village Mall
  • South: The Blockhouse
  • East: Hyperama Edenvale
  • West: Silverstar Casino (Silverstar is a long ride, so make sure the tank is full and the bike is up to it).

Residents are thanked in advance for their cooperation.
