The Roundtable sponsors dinner
Round Table Golden East 181 held a sponsors dinner at their clubhouse, in Klein Street, to mark the end of their annual Kids Holiday event, last month
Every year, for the past 32 years, Round Table Golden East 181 hosted a Kids Holiday event for one week in the year.
Round Table Golden East 181 vice-chairman, Robin Clare-Talbot, said: “The Kids Holiday aims to offer 10 to 12 boys, between the ages of eight and 12, who would not normally have the opportunity of going on holiday, a week’s break with the members and families of Golden East 181.
“A heavy emphasis is placed on ensuring that the boys are exposed to a normalised environment that promotes strong family values and morals.
“This is emphasised in the various cultural, educational, spiritual and social events that are planned during the week.”
The boys are chosen via the various schools and halfway houses in the Benoni area and are chosen on merit — those who excel in school and those who are in difficult circumstances but show up every day and do what is asked of them in spite of their situation.
Clare-Talbot said recommendations are made by various teachers and councillors and the decisions are made on a case-to-case basis.
This year, the children had a jam-packed week, during which they were taken to different places of entertainment and took part in various activities.
Day one of Kids Holiday was sponsored by Carnival City and the East Rand Tables, and the children had fun bowling and playing other games.
Other activities included a day trip on a 4×4 sponsored by 4×4 fanatics.
Clare-Talbot said the activities contribute to a more rounded education for the boys and become opportunities for the young boys to develop into young adults who will one day be an asset to society.
The week also culminated in a prize-giving, at which every boy received a gift and the teams who exhibited the best teamwork were awarded special recognition.
