Former rector Alan Thompson recently left to work at St Andrew’s, in Grahamstown.
McConnachie, who was the head boy and sportsman of the year, matriculated from CBC St John’s Parklands, in Cape Town, in 1976.
He went on to complete a higher diploma of education in commerce at UCT in 1981 and a BA through Unisa in 1990.
His majors were history and psychology.
McConnachie was previously the deputy headmaster at St Stithians’s College, in Sandton.
He has taught accounting at Pinelands High School, where he served as business manager and ultimately deputy principal.
“He is a committed Christian and a person of great interest,” said Mandy Lachenicht, campus head of innovation and marketing.
He describes himself as a dedicated and committed educator.
“I have a great and continuous desire to learn, and I am both strategic and futuristic thinker.
“I focus on strengths as a way to stimulate personal and group excellence, and I am intrigued by the unique qualities of each person,” he said.
Lachenicht said McConnachie has a particular passion for leadership and the role it plays in the development of individuals and groups.
“We wish him and his family every blessing for their future at St Dunstan’s College.”
