Two accidents in one morning
Thirty-two people were injured in two accidents, this morning (March 10).
A collision between a bakkie, a light motor vehicle and a taxi, on the N12, near Atlas Road, left 21 people injured.
At around 8.45am, ER24 paramedics from the Johannesburg East branch, along with other services, arrived on scene and found all three vehicles in the right emergency lane of the highway.
“On assessment, paramedics discovered that 21 occupants from the taxi had sustained only minor injuries,” said Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson.
“Fortunately, no one sustained any serious injuries.
“Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries and transported them to the Sunshine Hospital, for further medical treatment.”
The drivers of both the bakkie and light motor vehicle were unharmed.
The cause of the collision is not yet known, but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
Another taxi collision, on Athlone Road, in Daveyton, between 9.30am and 10am, resulted in 11 people, including an EMPD officer, sustaining injuries.
“ER24 paramedics from the Johannesburg East branch arrived on scene and found the taxi wedged up against the wall of a residence,” said Meiring.
“The occupants of the taxi were found walking around, while the Metro officer was lying metres away.”
Paramedics discovered that the Metro officer had sustained moderate injuries, while the 10 occupants of the taxi had sustained minor injuries.
Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries, then transported them to various hospitals for further treatment.
Paramedics said the officer motioned the taxi to stop, which it failed to do, causing the taxi driver to lose control and collide with the wall.
They said part of the wall then fell onto the officer.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
