Would-be thief shoots Actonville resident in leg

A 58-year-old Actonville resident was shot in the leg, by a would-be vehicle thief, this morning (April 13).

The victim was in the process of leaving for work, from his Parbhoo Street home, when he was shot.

Actonville SAPS spokesperson WO Ramothakhi Maqabe said the victim reversed his VW Golf Four, and got out to close the gate.

When he turned around, he saw the criminal sitting in the driver’s seat attempting to drive away.

“For some reason, the suspect failed to reverse the car,” said Maqabe.

“When the victim asked what he (the suspect) was doing inside his car, the suspect fired a shot and the complainant was hit in the right leg.

“The suspect ran away without the car.”

Maqabe said the shooter was wearing a mask.

ER24 JHB East spokesperson Glen Orritt said the victim was transported to the Tambo Memorial Hospital in a stable condition.

An attempted hijacking case has been opened at the Actonville Police Station.

No arrest has been made.
