At about 7am, an EMPD patrol spotted the suspected stolen vehicle, a white Ford Ranger on Snake Road and gave chase.
The vehicle (which had been reported stolen in Delmas) crashed at the traffic light on the intersection between Snake Road and Pioneer Drive, after which the single occupant got out and ran into the bushes.
“The Benoni Flying Squad gave chase on foot, cornered the suspect and caught him,” said Const Zunickha Essakjee, acting Benoni SAPS media officer.
“He was arrested for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.”
Members of the public alerted the City Times to a helicopter (believed to be from a tracking company) flying low in the area.
