Police apprehend two suspects on Tom Jones Street after car chase

There was a heavy police presence in the Benoni CBD this morning, after four suspected robbers were involved in an accident on Tom Jones Street.

The accident occurred at 11.15am on the corner of Tom Jones Street and Victoria Avenue.

Two suspects were arrested at the intersection after the car they were travelling in crashed into another vehicle.

Police are still looking for two other suspects who were also in the getaway car.

The four suspects, driving a white Toyota Camry down Victoria Avenue, crashed into another car with two occupants, at the intersection.

The driver of the second vehicle, a Rynpark Five resident, was with her 84-year-old female friend in the car when the accident happened.

The 84-year-old was moderately injured and transported to Sunshine Hospital.

According to police on scene, the suspects robbed a Jet store in Brakpan earlier today.

Police chased the armed perpetrators until they crashed their car in the Benoni CBD.

One shot was fired, but no-one was injured by it.
