Police continue search for three armed robbers

Police are yet to make an arrest after three gunmen robbed a Liquor City outlet at Mayfield Square, near Daveyton at the weekend.

Putfontein Police Station commander Col Khumbulani Mbatha told the City Times the business was robbed at around 6pm on June 27.

“According to the complainant, at 5.45pm, a person came into the shop pretending to be a customer and asked what time the shop closed,” said Mbatha.

“A few minutes later, three people walked into the shop (two armed with hand guns and a third armed with what appeared to be a shotgun or rifle).”

Staff and customers were ordered to lie down on the ground.

The station commander said the men took around R15 000 in cash and took money and cellphones from the customers.

The robbers fled in a silver BMW.

Mbatha said no shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

A case of business robbery has been opened.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the criminals should contact the investigating officer, Det Const Motswarifeng Mokafane on 011 845 6300/10.
