New hospital for Daveyton

Plans to build a new hospital on the corner of Sigalo and Sinaba streets, in Daveyton, are currently underway.

Department of Health spokesperson Steve Mabona said the request for services for the hospital was submitted to the Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development (GDID) on May 18.

“The department is in the process of appointing professional service providers to plan, cost and implement the project,” added Mabona.

“It is envisaged that planning of the project will be completed before the end of the 2015/16 financial year.

Construction of the hospital will commerce in the 2016/17 financial year.

Meanwhile, the plan to upgrade the existing Daveyton Main Clinic into a 24-hour Community Health Centre is also underway.

Mabona said that, due to the high demand for health services, high population growth and restructuring of health care services, which demand more space, there is a need for an extension to the clinic.

“The existing clinic cannot accommodate the large number of patients visiting it, due to space limitation,” he explained.
