Constant flow of water is ignored by EMM
People are upset that, despite calls from the Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality (EMM) to conserve water, leaks are not being repaired with any sense of urgency
Residents claim that they have complained numerous times to the EMM, yet none of the leaks have been repaired.
This is a concern to them, due to the recent hot temperatures and water scarcity.
Apex resident Christine Malan, who reported a leak from a water meter on Toronto Street, said: “This water has been pouring out for three months now and nothing has been done.”
The leakage has resulted in the formation of a “pond”, which ducks and chickens now enjoy.
Malan is concerned for the safety of children, who could possibly drown.
She said she has reported the issue many times, but has not found a solution to the problem.
Actonville resident Rashid Samsoodeen, said he reported a leak from a water meter situated on an open piece of land near his house, on Prem Crescent. He added that it has leaked for more than six months and he is alarmed at the water wastage.
He said the municipality came and looked at the leak, but nothing has been done since then.
The municipality was approached for comment but none had been received at the time of going to print.
