Japanese mathematics course launches at Fatima Church
Several local schools and day care centres were in attendance at the Benoni launch of Cmaths, recently.
Calculating Mental Arithmetic Tuition with the Help of Japanese Soroban (Cmaths) is an initiative of the organisation A+Students by Cmaths.
The programme aims to increase the speed and accuracy with which children do calculations, working best when implemented at a young age.
The launch was held at Our Lady of Fatima Church, in Brentwood Park, coinciding with the organisation’s 10-year anniversary.
Marlene Mouton, founder of A+Students, explained the method and history behind the initiative.
“Numbers are made tactile and concrete for the children, which makes it much easier for them to learn,” said Mouton.
Tessa Weissnar will be in charge of the Benoni branch, visiting schools for lessons and operating from Our Lady of Fatima Church.
