Two arrested for copper theft
Two people, one of them a teenager, were arrested for being in possession of copper cables that were stripped from a transformer in Fairleads.
Crystal Park SAPS media officer Tryna Maritz said two males, aged 16 and 22, were arrested in the early hours of December 7.
“At about 1.30am (December 7), a community member alerted the CPF from Fairleads that her electricity went off,” said Maritz.
“The CPF members then mobilised themselves and started to patrol the area, as there were two other incidents regarding theft of copper at transformers that occurred last week.”
The people were spotted on the corner of Sports and Middle roads, who ran off when they saw the CPF.
Two of the three suspects were caught.
They were arrested for being in possession of stolen property and will appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court soon.
