Little guests enjoy seventh annual party
Lots of eating, playing and gift opening put "priceless" smiles on 92 young faces at the weekend.
The annual Care and Share Christmas Party was held at Old Bens Sports Grounds, on December 5.
It is held in partnership with the City Times.
The youngsters, from five children’s homes, were the focus of attention.
Volunteers of the Benoni High School (BHS) Representative Council of Learners (RCL) gave their time to assist; painting faces and acting as motor vehicles, running around with children on their shoulders.
Children were given a meal, ate a cake, were treated to a dance, reptile and dog show and the joy of a jumping castle – and a Santa Claus.
Audrey Todd, who has arranged the event in Benoni for seven years, said she was thrilled by its success.
“The children were so well behaved and absolutely happy,” said Todd.
“The delight on their faces when they opened their gifts was great.”
She lauded the day’s sponsors and the BHS pupils for being “absolutely incredible” with the children.
“They (BHS) played with the children and helped where they could; they made everybody feel welcome,” said Todd.
She said sponsors requested that their good deeds not be mentioned in the City Times.
“Thank you to everybody who so willingly gave from their hearts,” she added.
Sylvia Tabola, project manager at the Wattville branch of the SA Red Cross, said the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
“We have been coming (to the party) for four years and it’s a great experience every year, just to see the smiles on the children’s faces – it’s priceless,” added Tabola.
She said the children look forward to the event long in advance.
