Stay safe this festive season
Although you may be relaxing during the holiday season, crime won't be sleeping. The Benoni CPF warned the public to remain vigilant during this time and compiled a list of safety tips to help.
- Never draw money from an ATM without making yourself aware of your surroundings.
- While shopping try not to park your vehicle in dark places as centre cameras might not be clear on what’s happening at your vehicle.
- Do not enter or exit your property without making sure there’s no person or vehicle close by. If there is, rather wait for them to leave or drive around the block.
- Do not, leave your handbag, briefcase, cellphone or other important accessories visible while driving.
- Try opening your car windows just a little bit. When someone tries to smash it, it’s more difficult to get a direct hit.
- Make a bigger effort to only put out your trash on the day of delivery as this will discourage anyone who goes through them to roam the streets at night.
- When your dogs bark at night, make an effort to find out why and call them off if it’s nothing. If they bark all night at nothing it might just happen that the neighbours will ignore it the time you need help.
- Please buckle up your children while driving. If any CPF member spots a child not buckled up they will take a photo of your car and send it to local authorities.
- Please don’t drink and drive, call the CPF if you don’t want to call family, they will assist you in getting home.
- While buying or strolling anywhere, do not keep valuables unattended, not even while loading goods in your car.
In case of an emergency make sure to call 10111 before anyone else.
