Lions feed hundreds

The Benoni Lakes Lions Club handed out 50 goodie bags, containing staple foods, at the weekend.

Club members distributed the bags, worth around R100 each, at the Deneys Conradie Residentia, Farrarmere Gardens and in Western Extension, on January 16.

“This event is part of the ‘Relieving the Hunger’ Campaign, a Lions global campaign which takes place during the months of December and January, that focuses on hunger and malnutrition,” said club member Beaulieu Maré.

“Lions everywhere share a common belief: Community is what we make it.”

The club also dished out 200 sandwich packs to destitute people in Kempton Park, on January 17.

“Organizing this project gave us a chance to help families in our community who don’t have enough to eat or can’t afford to buy nutritious food,” said Nick Maré, club president.
