Police officer shot in tavern

An off-duty police officer was shot in the leg at a Wattville tavern last night.

Actonville SAPS station commander Col Fredl Jonck said the incident happened on the corner of Dube and Xaba streets, at 10pm.

Two people entered the establishment and demanded valuables from the patrons.

During the incident, several shots were fired, with one of them hitting a sergeant in the left leg.

The officer is a court orderly at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court.

The police member was this morning in a stable condition in the Sunshine Hospital.

A case of attempted murder and business robbery has been opened.

No arrests have been made.
