Man robbed of cigarettes worth R64 000

A case of armed robbery was opened at the Daveyton Police Station this morning (February 11), after a man driving a British American Tobacco (BAT) vehicle was robbed of cigarettes worth R64 000.

The incident occurred on the corner of Hlaneki and Hasane streets, Daveyton, at 8.40am.

According Benoni SAPS spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele, the driver was about to make a delivery at a spaza shop in the area, when a white Toyota Corolla, with three men, parked next to his car.

“One of the robbers pointed a gun at him through the window, while the other one left the vehicle and forced him to lie down,” said Sekele.

The suspects fled with four boxes of cigarettes.

No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made.

Police are investigating further.
