Food drive held for Bunny Park
TumbleBugz hosted a food drive for the Bunny Park on Saturday (February 20), on their premises in Norton Home Estates.
The purpose of the drive was to give back to the community and raise awareness about the animals in the park needing more food.
The Bunny Park Animals 911 Group was present on the day, to help with the collection of the 120kg of food that was donated.
Founder of Bunny Park Animals 911 Group, Tania Forrest-Smith, said: “We need the public to help and we need more hands.”
The group relies on donations they receive from various sponsors to help them to keep up with the demands of feeding the animals every Sunday.
Oakley and Keegan Brooklyn (5), who are the youngest members of the group, shared their views on the initiative.
“It feels good to feed the bunnies, we go there every week,” said Oakley.
Keegan said: “It feels good to feed the bunnies fresh food; we want to take them home.”
Community members who attended the event included the parents of pupils of local nursery schools, who were in full support of the initiative.
Bea Peterson said: “It’s a very clever and nice way to teach the children to take care of the community and animals.”
Another supporter, Charlene Warne, said: “This is very good, it’s what is needed and we will support what’s needed.
“The Bunny Park was around when I was growing up and we want the kids to enjoy it when they are old enough.”
Donations of fresh food for the rabbits, and pellets for the goats, sheep and cows are some of the food supplies that are needed.
Residents may deliver food to TumbleBugz, or to Forrest-Smith’s home.
