John Wesley kids receive new playground
The John Wesley Community Centre received an extension to its playground from the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora recently.
The unveiling of the additional play equipment was held at the centre’s premises in Etwatwa.
The club sponsored the build of a sandpit, a roundabout and several climbing frames.
The club and the school have had a close working relationship for near on 15 years, with Aurora paying for a reading room, a computer centre, a training class, an art class, extending the kitchen as well as upgrading the centre’s ablution facilities by adding showers.
Northfield Methodist Church (NMC) has been involved with the centre as a parent organisation since 2003.
Allan Holmes, mission and outreach project manager at NMC, said the school started out with 30 children and has ballooned to about 250 now.
John Wesley offers preschool education from ages one through six. It doubles as an aftercare centre for local school children.
“We are so grateful for these new facilities, it will certainly help the kids grow and learn more here,” said Francina Tsagane, Grade R teacher at the school.
