Help police combat car theft
The Benoni SAPS is asking for your help in combating car theft.
This comes after there have been a few incidents of stolen cars reported at some Benoni shopping centres.
Police would not say which centres are being targeted.
Benoni SAPS spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said in some of these cases it is alleged that security guards in the shopping centres are involved.
“People must always be vigilant, as it only takes about two to five minutes to commit the crime,” said Sekele.
Police provided tips that can help you secure your vehicle:
- Lock your steering wheel with a steering-wheel lock.
- Always remove your car electronic equipment, such as navigation devices and car radios.
- Keep your valuables and possessions safe; don’t leave anything on display in your car.
- Take all your belongings with you when you leave the car.
- Always make sure you’ve locked your car before moving away from it.
- Lock all doors and close windows, including the sunroof, every time you leave your car unattended.
- Install an alarm.
- Fit locking wheel nuts, as wheels are often targets for car thieves.
