Tom Newby attempts world record

Tom Newby School will soon find out if it holds a world record.

The school attempted to set a world record for popping the most balloons by jumping on them on Saturday (April 9).

Parents and pupils blew up balloons in anticipation of the main event of the day.

A total of 1 432 balloons were popped at about 4.30pm.

To document the exciting event a video was taken, which will be submitted to RecordSetter.

At a cost of R10, the day involved pupils and parents participating in balloon and relay games, with food stalls set up in case the busy bees got hungry.

After a week the school will be notified if it has succeeded in setting a world record.

“It was so good for families to spend time together in a safe environment at a minimal cost,” said Giselle Mynhardt, principal at Tom Newby School.
