Her dreams are coming true
A 17-year-old’s plea for Benoni’s support was not in vain.
Chanél Loock recently asked Benoni to support her singing career by allocating finances for her audition in the SA Championship of Performing Arts, which took place in the first two weeks of April.
Loock was selected in her category, in which more than 10 000 contestants competed in the vocal, dance, drama and modelling sections.
From the 10 000 contestants, 200 were chosen for Team SA, a moulding team to prepare contestants for the World Championships.
Loock is the going represent South Africa in the World Championships of Performing Arts during the first two weeks of July, in Los Angeles, California.
“Being accepted into Team SA was an absolute dream come true,” she said.
“I received four gold medals and two silver medals for my vocal items.”
“I sang Hallelujah, Don’t Put Dirt On My Grave, Warrior, Hurt, Masterpiece and Any Way You Want It.”
Loock thanks God for her achievements and said the experience of being selected is surreal.
“California is like the ultimate part of the competition,” she said.
“Contestants have an opportunity to gain scholarships, record deals, signing with major companies and more.”
The 17-year-old has been singing at various events since the tender age of five and was selected for Team SA in 2005, but lacked the finances to participate further.
This seems to be her issue again, 11 years later.
“I am urging the community of Benoni to assist her as she has amazing God given talent and this opportunity would further her career as a vocal artist,” said her mother, Anneline Mennegke.
The amount needed for Loock’s trip is R135 000, which includes her entry, full SA team gear, hotel accommodation, flight tickets and catering.
