Spewing water pipe in Rynfield fixed

Water was spewing onto the road by the litre in Rynfield, on May 18.

The water was being pumped out of a ditch dug to replace piping, on the corner of Sarel Cillers and Kuper streets.

The project manager on site said the team was there to replace a section of several metres of the old piping with PVC piping.

Asked why the water continued to flow during the replacement, Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, said: “The water that was seen running was the water left inside the pipeline as the water valves were closed.

“The pipe needed to be replaced due to its condition and repeated bursts,” Gadebe said.

He said work on the pipe started at the end of April and was due to finish about a week after his comment was given, on May 20.
