Woman gives birth to twins after bus breaks down on Tom Jones Street

A mother unexpectedly gave birth to twins after the bus she was travelling in broke down yesterday (May 31).

The mother reportedly did not know she was pregnant with twin boys.

Emer-G-Med paramedics were on the scene, in Tom Jones Street, Northmead, and delivered the babies, who were prematurely born at 32 weeks.

According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Max Cohen, the bus was driving from Malawi and a call was logged to CMS, reporting a woman to be in active labour.

“Paramedics assisted in the delivery of the 32-week, premature baby,” said Cohen.

“Much to the mom’s disbelief, paramedics delivered a second baby.

“She was not aware of the fact that she was carrying twins.

“Paramedics joked that it would be funny if the mom named the first baby ‘Tom’ and the second one ‘Jones’.”

Cohen said the babies and mother were taken to the Tambo Memorial Hospital in Boksburg, once they had been stabilised.
